John Kuri, writer, director, executive producer, has many years of experience creating high quality entertainment. His affiliations have included The Walt Disney companies, Paramount, Metro Goldwyn Mayer, Turner Network Television, ABC television, NBC television, and Imagine Films Entertainment. His collaborations with director Ron Howard resulted in the development and production of several projects for NBC, including movies, as well as dramatic and comedy television pilots.

Throughout John's career the nature and scope of his work has varied from writing and developing both movie and series projects to the intense hands-on management responsibilities of production and post production. His career began with a thirteen year affiliation with Walt Disney Productions. This experience encompassed management in all areas of the company's vast activities, ranging from television and motion picture production to theme park design and operations. Following his Disney years John has broad experience with many of the major studios in Hollywood on a variety of feature films and television.

John's films have received numerous awards and nominations including the Emmy, the Cable Ace, the Christopher Award for excellence in television, the Western Heritage Award, and the Golden Halo, to name a few. He is a voting member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, having served on their Special Effects committee for over ten years. He is also a member of the Writers Guild of America, the Directors Guild of America, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Art Directors. He has vast production experience in many states within the U.S. including Hawaii, and internationally in Canada’s Vancouver, Calgary, and Montreal, as well in Ireland, England, and Japan.

Over the years while writing many screenplays, six of John's works have been published. He has produced over fifteen films and television movies, is the co-creator of the Warner Brothers/ABC dramatic series O’Hara; co-wrote and produced the MGM feature Captive Hearts; wrote and published the story which then became the movie One More Mountain which he produced for Disney and ABC; and wrote, produced, and directed a cutting-edge multi-media CD-ROM game. In addition, he has credits in art direction on over twenty film and television projects. He also has written, directed and edited several commercials and industrials. Earlier in his career he was nominated for an Emmy for Art Direction in NBC’s movie of John Steinbeck’s, The Red Pony, which starred Henry Fonda.

Last year the Los Angeles Times featured a story in their Sunday "Calendar" section which praised one of John's films, Conagher, considering it to be one of the most historically accurate movies set in the old west. The film was based on the novel by Louis L'Amour and starred Sam Elliott and Katharine Ross. When this film debuted on TNT it set a Nielson ratings record for the network and still plays frequently, being one of their most successful productions.

For the Stay Tuned pilot, John wrote, directed, edited, and operated one of the principal camera’s during production. He also designed the virtual set for Stay Tuned Central and created a number of the composited visual effects featured in the show. A devotee of guitar, John played acoustic guitar on the recording of the title theme music.

John has guest lectured at the film schools of UCLA and UCI and moderated a panel on “Interactive Writing” for Media World at the Moscone Center in San Francisco and has served as a panelist for the seminar Digital Dreams at the Mill Valley Film Festival. John is computer literate in Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects®, Premiere®, Photoshop® and Illustrator®, as well as, Avid, Media 100, Movie Magic, and Excel.
