“When we first started talking about Stay Tuned, Pat and I wanted to include the Squirrel Nut Zippers. But we found that the band was not touring while Katharine, their lead vocalist, was devoting her time to her newborn daughter. Time passes and we looked at, talked to, and considered a lot of artists including Lucinda Williams, Shawn Colvin, Van Morrison, Kelly Willis, Bebel Gilberto, Sara Evans, Martina McBride, and Ben Harper. There were others we considered but as you can see, from country to rock to neo bossa, we were looking for a sound to fill out the show, with artists of significant caliber that would fit with the likes of John Hammond and Leftover Salmon, who we had now shot. Suddenly we realize that the Squirrel Nuts are doing a limited tour. From the moment of that realization it took two days and we had completed arrangements to include them in the show. Destiny, that’s what it is.”
Reflecting on the whole experience John said, “Vince Herman, one of Leftover Salmon’s lead singers, talks about the community of bluegrass music and wanting to extend that to include all forms of music. Their fans appreciate the wide spectrum that is their music. They stay in touch through the band’s web site. There’s a lot of people who’ve heard about Stay Tuned and are anxious to know when it will be on.
“Our web site, www.staytunedtv.com, will link us to the band web-sites, so we’ll get some grassroots marketing going on. Through that medium we will give viewers further information about the bands, some gallery shots, and connect them to the artists. It will clearly stimulate interest in Stay Tuned. And through our site we will be linked to all the artists and the same in return. All of their fans will be connected through the common link of Stay Tuned.”
