The documentary "Lukumi" is an Oral History tracing Afro Cuban drumming
traditions from its West Africa origins of Ille Ife Nigeria to its
contemporary diasporic home in Havana Cuba. The project also explores
various genres: Rhumba, Palo, Abakua, and Bata.

The documentary was conceived by Bradley Martin and Benjamen Elsesser in
2003 and began production in 2004. Since then the team has made two trips to
La Havana gathering the information needed to tell this story. As well as in
depth interviews with living legends of the tradition Lazaro Pedroso,
Alejando Carbahal,Papo Anagarica and more, the majority of this piece is from
performances.
The footage is a combination of new and archival footage compiled from Cuba,
Africa, and the US. Please enjoy these production stills.
